Royal Tour to South Africa
                 1947

When it was decided that  a Royal visit would be made  to South Africa, HMS Vanguard arrived at The Royal Naval Dockyard in Portsmouth in August 1946 for the conversion for the Royal Tour which included the provision of the Royal Apartments for the accommodation of Their Majesties the King and Queen and the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret.   These consisted of:-
King's Day Cabin
King's Dining Cabin
Queen's Day Cabin
Queen's Sleeping Cabin
Princess Margaret's Sleeping Cabin
